Why Is My Car Not Starting?

An automobile has so many different moving parts. It’s inevitable that there will be times when everything doesn’t work quite how it’s supposed to. A little bit of maintenance can sometimes do the trick, but there may be the need for a bit more involved of repairs. Whatever the problem may be, Kenny Kent Lexus has technicians on-site at our Evansville location that can determine if the following issues are to blame.
Your Battery Isn’t Working Properly
An automobile battery can experience all kinds of issues. Your battery may be fine, but connections may be corroded or disconnected. Your battery may be drained and unable to hold a new charge. You may have also left your lights on overnight, and this temporarily drained your battery. We can determine what the problem is, and we’ll let you know if it’s time to invest in a new battery.
Ignition Defect
Once we’ve ruled out battery issues, we’ll check your ignition to see if there’s a defect there. Our first indicating factor of an ignition defect is that everything battery-operated is working fine, but your engine isn’t starting.
Starter Malfunction
In between the ignition and the engine is your starter. This is a system that is powered by a small electric motor. Because this is battery operated, a dead battery can also affect a starter. However, the starter itself may be to blame. Check to see if you hear clicking coming from your vehicle when you try to start it, but no noise would be coming from the engine bay.
Fuel Filter Replacement Needed
If your fuel filter is clogged up and not allowing enough fuel to pass through, your engine isn’t going to be able to start. Your average time frame for a fuel filter replacement is anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 miles. We can take a look to see if this maintenance is needed.
You’re Out of Gas
It seems like it would be impossible to run out of gas, especially with the alerts that vehicles provide to drivers these days. However, we still see a lot of people who forgot to fill their gas tanks and can’t get their vehicles started.
The service team at Kenny Kent Lexus is ready to help you diagnose an issue that is preventing your engine from starting. Reach out to our location in Evansville to set up an appointment.
