After almost a decade of remaining under the same LS 460 moniker, the Lexus LS has recently undergone a tremendous makeover. Making a dramatic debut into the modern day full-size luxury sedan market with an innovative redesign back in late 2017, the Lexus LS made quite a showy entrance, following the company’s desire to disassociate words like “boring” from the Lexus brand in an effort to appeal to younger buyers. The 2019 Lexus LS remains largely unchanged since the 2018 model year, but some improvements made in its transmission functions this year, such as a remapping of the gear ratios, show that Lexus is more than capable of demonstrating their “pursuit of perfection” by responding so quickly to its customer base.

The 2019 Lexus LS is available in six different trims. Those looking for a more economical vehicle might fancy the LS 500h trim, which is a hybrid model that uses only 33 mpg on the highway while providing a very respectable 0-60 mph time of only 5.1 seconds for the rear-wheel-drive version.

For others who seek a sportier trim, the LS 500 F Sport models will most certainly not disappoint, especially considering how rear-axle steering, a very modern technology that has surfaced across a variety of luxury vehicles only in recent years, is available. It noticeably increases agility and handling at high speeds, and reduces turning radius at lower speeds.

With any of the trims, different tiers of packages come available with their own host of neatly organized options. From the basic Interior Upgrade Package to the advanced Executive Package with Kiriko Glass, Lexus LS buyers have the ability to fine-tune the car’s plentiful options to their every need. Heated and ventilated front seats come as standard on all trims, as well as a navigation system on a 12.3-inch screen, and even a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic braking is standard as well. More premium options such as multifunction massaging for the driver and passengers and a large heads-up display are available also

All Lexus LS sedans, including the hybrid models, now come with a 3.5 liter, turbocharged V6 engine that provides more thrust at lower RPMs than the LS sedans of the distant past. Rated at 416 horsepower, the 2019 Lexus LS 500 RWD model, for example, can hit 60 mph from a standstill in only 4.6 seconds which is a marked improvement over the previous generation’s capability. A lot of this enhancement in acceleration can be attributed to having a twin-turbocharged engine, allowing the LS to have a stout 442 lb-ft of torque which peaks as low as 1,600rpm. Quite a luxury cruiser the LS is. Another noteworthy fact about the rear-wheel-drive LS models is that they have a turning circle of only 36.8 feet, which is not only astounding but downright ridiculous. Say goodbye to those headaches when making a U-turn or navigating tight parking lots in general, as that figure is remarkably below the industry average for sedans of this size.

Last, but not least, the 2019 Lexus LS offers an enticing package called Lexus Safety System+ A. Perhaps one of the most visually spectacular options to get on the LS, buyers of this package will acquire a very intriguing feature dubbed the “pre-collision system with front cross-traffic alert”. This technology allows the LS to scan the road left and right before making a turn, warning the driver of incoming traffic from both sides with large arrows via the heads-up display, lending the car quite an eccentric character.
