The Lexus GX has several changes and upgrades in its latest incarnation. The GX melds both Luxury and rugged travel capability, and in 2020, the enhancements are primarily changing optional extras into standard equipment. In addition to exterior design updates, the previously optional triple beam LED headlights are now standard on all trims. Design upgrades in the interior of the GX include extra USB connectivity as well as flourishes on the steering wheel and shifter.
Lexus offers three trims for the GX model: the GX460, the GX460 Premium, and the GX460 Luxury. Standard features across all trims include daytime running lights, running boards, heated power side mirrors with built-in turn signals, keyless entry, keyless ignition, slightly over eight inches of ground clearance, and two-zone air conditioning.
The interior amenities also features a standard 8” touchscreen infotainment screen and SiriusXM capability. Additional options include entertainment systems for rear-seat passengers on both sides of the cabin as well as a Mark Levinson sound system, increasing the interior speaker count from the standard nine to 17. In terms of storage, the GX features slightly over 64.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
Lexus also offers generous warranties, with a four year/50,000 mile limited warranty and a six year/70,000 mile powertrain warranty. Additionally, Lexus offers complimentary maintenance for the first year or 10,000 miles.
The Lexus GX features a powerful 301-hp, 4.6L V-8 engine with automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive, going from zero to 60 mph in seven seconds. This engine is now standard across the GX line. Unlike many of the similar class SUVs in direct competition, the Lexus GX was designed for off-road driving as well and features a standard proprietary suspension system to aid in traction and comfort.
No National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests have been posted, but the Lexus GX does include standard driver assistance technologies. Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are all standard across the GX line. Parking sensors are available as an optional extra.
