What’s New For the 2020 Lexus IS?

Sold as Lexus’s compact four-door sedan since 1999, the IS enters the 2020 model year—at the tail end of the nameplate’s third production cycle—with a brand-new Black Line Edition, which has exclusive wheels and black-and-indigo trim. Other than that, the Lexus IS remains the same as the preceding model year.

2020 Lexus IS has Varied Trim Levels & Countless Features

The 2020 Lexus IS is available in two trim levels: the IS 300 and the IS 350, with a sports-style “F Sport” variant for each one. The cabin presents two rows of seats to accommodate up to five people—with synthetic leather upholstery, sports-style front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 10-way power adjustability with lumbar on the driver’s side, 8-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, and 60/40 split-folding ability on the rear seats for cargo volume expansion as standard. The F-Sport adds front-seat heating and ventilation.

Standard comfort and convenience features include proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, Lexus Enform Remote connectivity, the HomeLink universal transceiver for remote-controlling home features such as garage doors, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free phone calling, subscription-free weather and traffic service, a 10-speaker stereo system with AM/FM radio, HD Radio, a full-color 7-inch multimedia display, a center-console controller, voice command ability, a 90-day SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, two USB ports, and the Scout GPS Link app for turn-by-turn directions. The F-Sport variants stand out with their G-force and turbo-boost gauges to provide exclusive performance data.

Options on all trims include steering-wheel heating, driver-side memory, the 15-speaker 835-watt Mark Levinson surround-sound system, a 10.3-inch high-resolution display with navigation, the mouse-like Remote Touch controller system, and Lexus Enform Destination Assist for 24-hour access to a live response center agent.

What’s Under the Hood of the 2020 IS?

The three-digit numbers of the Lexus IS represent the displacement of the engine choices. The “300” stands for a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine that produces 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The “350” model goes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that pumps out 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 mph time on the IS is measured as fast as 6.1 seconds with the I4 and 5.6 seconds with the V6. Both engines are linked to an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel paddle shifters, and each model offers the choice between a rear-wheel-drive system and the all-wheel drivetrain.

2020 Lexus IS Safety Technologies

The 2020 Lexus IS comes with a 10-airbag system that consists of knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, two frontal impact airbags, two side impact airbags, and two front and two rear side curtain airbags. Driver-assistance tech includes intuitive parking assist, smart stop technology, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Other standard safety features on the IS include vehicle dynamics integrated management, LED daytime running lights, an anti-lock braking system, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, a backup camera with dynamic guidelines, the Lexus Safety System+ (which includes more driver-assistance technologies, such as forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-keep assist), and Lexus Enform Safety Connect for functions such as automatic collision notification and roadside assistance.
