Summer Maintenance Tips

You may look forward to spending time on the road this summer, making it necessary to give your vehicle some attention. It’s important to have a car that runs well and is reliable when you’re traveling and are away from home. You’ll need to perform different maintenance tasks to ensure the vehicle stays in good shape and allows you to get to where you’re headed.

Oil & Oil Filter Change

Changing the oil in your car is one of the best things you can do to keep your car in tip-top shape. This will help the engine run smoothly and will prevent premature wear and tear from developing as you add more miles to the car. It’s important to keep in mind that the outside heat can have an effect on the oil in your engine, which can prevent it from flowing properly and lubricating all the parts.

Fluid Levels

The fluids in your vehicle need to be topped off before you head out on a trip to ensure you can avoid potential issues. You’ll need to top off the power steering, transmission, coolant, and wiper fluid. The coolant is especially important to take a look at to help your car stay cool when the temperatures rise. This will reduce the risk of the engine overheating while spending hours on the road.

Tire Pressure & Condition

Your tires are responsible for helping you maintain proper traction and fuel efficiency. You’ll need to check the tire pressure to ensure excess wear and tear doesn’t develop on the tread. They should be properly inflated at the right level. You may also need to hire a mechanic to rotate the tires to ensure the tread is even. In some cases, your tires may need to be replaced if they look bald. A technician can tell you how much longer they’ll last or if it’s time to replace them with a new set to ensure your vehicle drives smoothly.

Car Battery

Your car battery can also be affected by the high temperatures during the summer months. The summer season is when batteries tend to die a lot easier due to the hot weather conditions. Test the battery to determine how much power is left. You may want to replace it if it’s at least three or four years old.
